Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about therapy and my practice. If you don't see your question here, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Yes. I offer a complimentary first 30-minute consultation so we can get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. This is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to therapy or coaching, ask questions, and learn more about how I work.

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what's feeling difficult right now, and what you're hoping might be different. I'll also explain how I work, answer your questions, and make sure you have a sense of what therapy together might look like. You're always in control of the pace, and there's no pressure to share anything before you're ready.

Yes. I provide online individual therapy and couples therapy throughout California, with a particular focus on men’s mental health and relationship concerns. Individual therapy focuses on helping you better understand yourself, your relationships, and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Couples therapy focuses on improving communication, navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, and strengthening connection. My mediation training also informs my work by supporting collaborative conversations, accountability, and repair.

I frequently work with men and couples who: • Feel disconnected in their relationships or unsure how to reconnect • Have difficulty with vulnerability or expressing what they're feeling • Find themselves repeating the same relationship patterns • Struggle with intimacy, communication, or emotional connection • Shut down, withdraw, or become defensive during conflict • Feel lonely or emotionally disconnected • Want to better understand themselves, their partner, or their relationship • Are navigating a breakup, separation, divorce, or major relationship transition I also provide career and executive functioning coaching for adults seeking support with planning, prioritization, organization, time management, task initiation, and follow-through.

Career and executive functioning coaching is a combined, collaborative service for professionals throughout California. It can support career transitions, burnout, leadership development, and professional direction while helping you build practical systems for planning, prioritization, organization, time management, task initiation, decision-making, and follow-through. It may be especially helpful if you feel overwhelmed by competing demands, have difficulty starting or completing tasks, or navigate ADHD or other neurodivergent experiences. Coaching is tailored to your strengths, responsibilities, work environment, and goals; it is not psychological testing, medical treatment, or a substitute for psychotherapy.

I believe many of the patterns that bring people to therapy - anxiety, emotional withdrawal, perfectionism, self-criticism, or people-pleasing - developed as adaptive ways of coping with difficult relationships, environments, or life experiences. Rather than trying to eliminate those parts of you, we'll first understand what they've been protecting, and whether they're still serving the life and relationships you want today. My approach is relational, attachment-based, and evidence-based, drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with strength-based and solution-focused methods. I tailor therapy to each person's needs, with the goal of helping you build emotional awareness, self-understanding, and more fulfilling relationships with yourself and others. For those seeking career and executive functioning coaching, I bring extensive workforce development, higher education leadership, program management, and conflict resolution experience - including coaching hundreds of graduates, professionals, and mid-career professionals, and leading teams of career coaches who collectively supported thousands of people through career transitions and professional growth. Coaching is collaborative and goal-oriented, with practical strategies tailored to your strengths, responsibilities, and professional goals.

Yes, I offer online therapy through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for adults and couples throughout California. I also provide virtual career and executive functioning coaching for professionals throughout California. Many clients find virtual services offer greater flexibility, privacy, and convenience. Whether you're balancing work, caregiving, parenting, or a busy schedule, online support allows you to connect from the comfort of your own space.

Individual therapy sessions are $200 for 50 minutes; couples therapy sessions are $250; career and executive functioning coaching sessions are $200. Extended sessions are available. I offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation so we can explore what brings you to therapy or coaching and whether working together feels like a good fit. While I do not bill insurance directly, I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement depending on your insurance benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance company to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

Most people start with weekly sessions. Meeting regularly helps us build momentum and gives us a consistent space to work through what's coming up. Over time, we can adjust the frequency depending on your goals and what feels supportive.

It really depends on what you're hoping to work on. Some clients come for a couple months around a specific transition or challenge, while others continue longer as they explore deeper patterns and personal growth. We can check in along the way about what feels most supportive.

What you share in therapy is confidential. There are a few legal exceptions, such as if there is risk of harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or dependent adult, or when records are required by law. If any of these situations arise, we will talk through them together whenever possible.

That's very common! You're welcome to come exactly as you are - whatever you're feeling is welcome here. Many people begin therapy feeling uncertain about whether it will actually make a difference. The first session is simply a chance for us to talk about what's been going on and see whether the space feels helpful, even if you're feeling nervous or skeptical.

You can reach out through the contact form on my website or by email. From there, we can schedule your complimentary first session and talk about what brings you to therapy or coaching and whether working together feels like the right fit.
